www.managedITmag.co.uk 21 The Panasonic TOUGHBOOK 34 is built for teams that need maximum mobility and productivity in one rugged 2-in-1 solution. It delivers high levels of performance, connectivity and agility for field workers – and features the only 12.4‑inch screen in the rugged tablet market to be introduced with no increase in form factor. This gives users more space to manage complex, AI-driven workflows at the edge. Dirk Weigelt, Senior Product and Solutions Manager at Panasonic TOUGHBOOK, said: “The TOUGHBOOK 34 reflects how field work is evolving. Users are working with increasingly complex applications, larger datasets and AI-enabled workflows at the edge. We’ve designed the 34 to give them more screen space, more performance and more flexibility, whilst maintaining the rugged reliability and infrastructure continuity that organisations expect from Panasonic.” More room to work From maps and plans to diagnostics, command and control functions and technical documents, the 34’s larger display helps users view more information, interact more comfortably and make better use of applications. For field workers in utilities and surveying, the larger screen size is ideal for accessing technical information and sensor data at the edge. Its Full HD+ screen features Panasonic’s AdaptiveTouch mode, which automatically recognises finger, digitiser pen or glove use, allowing users to switch seamlessly between applications. Easy‑to-use, even when wet, the screen delivers up to 1,000 cd/m² of brightness for absolute clarity in bright light, making the 34 the perfect field companion. Panasonic’s retractable ergo grip handle, featuring a secure, slip-resistant design, reduces fatigue when carrying the 34 for prolonged periods. Despite featuring a larger screen than its predecessor, the TOUGHBOOK 34 is 13% lighter and is currently the lightest 12.4-inch rugged tablet on the market. An optional rugged keyboard can be attached for reporting, data entry and input-heavy workflows in the field or back in the office. This provides additional functionality, including an extra USB-A, HDMI, serial port, LAN connectivity and SD card reader. Longer runtime, less downtime The modularity of the 34 allows two exchangeable batteries to be used simultaneously and for one to be replaced while the other keeps the device running. Panasonic’s new battery pack structure means that the 34’s single 40w/h battery delivers a significant 20% increase in battery longevity, compared to its predecessor. Providing up to 18 hours of usage on a single charge (based on MobileMark 30), the 34 provides teams with more than enough power to use multiple, power-hungry applications throughout a full shift. Built on Panasonic’s DNA The 34 embodies Panasonic’s DNA of durability, modularity, enterprise security, next-generation AI performance and infrastructure continuity that’s become synonymous with all TOUGHBOOK devices. It combines Intel Core Ultra performance (including an integrated Intel Arc Graphics architecture), enterprise-grade security and advanced connectivity in a rugged 2-in-1 form factor. As a Copilot+ PC, the 34 delivers AI-ready computing for demanding field workflows, while certifications for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Device Edge 7 support secure, resilient edge deployments. With Wi-Fi 7, optional 4G and 5G connectivity, Windows 11 Securedcore PC protection and optional firmware‑based hardware integrity verification with TOUGHBOOK Guard8, the 34 provides the speed, connectivity and security required for mission-critical operations in any sector and environment. The 34 meets IP66 standards for dust and water ingress, has been vibration tested to MIL-STD 810H9 specifications and can operate in temperatures from -29°C to +63°C (-20°F to 145°F). Backwards compatibility reduces costs To protect users’ existing investments and simplify device upgrades without replacing established infrastructure, most accessories and peripherals from earlier models can be used with the 34. For fire services utilising the 34 as a Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) on long deployment lifecycles, fleet managers can seamlessly upgrade to the newest device without replacing existing infrastructure and without any interruption in service. TOUGHBOOK G3 Panasonic’s second new product launch, the TOUGHBOOK G3, also features Panasonic’s new battery pack structure, offering unrivalled longevity and choice, combined with a lightweight, agile and modular design engineered for mobile field users in the defence, emergency services, utilities, surveying, manufacturing, logistics and automotive sectors. https://eu.connect.panasonic.com/gb/ en/search?s=toughbook TOUGHBOOK 34 represents biggest advance on previous model in Panasonic brand’s 30-year history Panasonic launches new TOUGHBOOK models REVIEW Panasonic TOUGHBOOK 34 & G3 EDITOR’S CHOICE AWARD MAGAZINE & WEBSITE 2026
